23 year old Megan Smith has recently graduated from Yale University, with dreams of making a name for herself as a journalist. In spite of being ambitious, determined, as well as somewhat neurotic and clumsy, she is unable to succeed in the field of journalism. Soon after loosing her job, Megan faces another setback when her apartment in New York City is burned down.
As she ponders over her bad luck-prone life, Megan’s former boss helps her meet the cosmetics mogul, Laurel Limoges. Laurel offers Megan the job of being the live-in tutor for her teenaged twin granddaughters Rose and Sage, whom she hopes of getting into the Duke University. Megan accepts the job and soon finds herself in the lavish neighborhood of Palm Beach, Florida, where she tries to adjust to the relaxed and privileged lifestyle of the rich.
However, she soon finds that she will be getting more than she had bargained for when the twins, who are not only snobby, stuck-up, but also spoiled and rotten, express their displeasure about their new tutor. While the teens plot to throw their new tutor into turmoil at any cost, Megan is equally determined to keep her new job.
